The task

As interim CTO, modernise and digitise three manufacturing facilities (turbine and generator repair, custom blade manufacturing, and gas turbine casing manufacture and repair) to raise profitability, improve customer relations and quality, and cut cycle times in preparation for sale.

What we did

  • Set up a PMO and a cross-business-unit matrix team of more than 50 executives and subject matter experts.
  • Designed the future-state business architecture and led the organisational change to get there.
  • Implemented it across all three business units in less than three years.

Results

  • Turbine and generator repair estimating time cut from two to three weeks or more, to under four hours.
  • Quality issues improved by more than 75%.
  • Custom blade quoting (a complex CPQ process) cut from an industry-standard three weeks or more to under a day, which led directly to a multimillion contract win over major competitors.
  • EBITA moved from -20% to +10% in under two years.
